Our Story

Houston had a population of only 2400 people. Tomball would not come into existence for another 56 years. There was nothing in the far northwest area of modern day metropolitan Houston except scattered settlers and one church: Salem Lutheran Church.

Today, Salem is seated upon over 100 acres on a hill in northwest Harris County in the community of Tomball, Texas. The campus is home to a Christian day school (K-8th grades) and an early childhood center.

Salem has always been a place of vision to reach out in unconditional love and support to the community. From the earliest mission activities in the 19th century to being an active supporter of local community programs such as TOMAGWA (Tomball Magnolia and Waller Medical Assistance) and TEAM (Tomball Emergency Assistance Ministries) to activities in Mexico and Honduras, this vision is being carried out in the community and worldwide.

From a population of roughly 51,000 in 1990 to over 100,000 projected in 2008, Tomball is one of the fastest growing rural areas north of Houston. Tomball is centrally located and easily accessible and convenient to all major airports and highways. It is a community valuing education and has a strong, vibrant sense of faith making it an attractive community for many families.

Salem is blessed that God foresaw the future growth of this community and He positioned Salem for ministry to the people and families in northwest Harris County.
