Vision for Africa

Vision for Africa began in 2007 with a preliminary trip to see the country and meet its leaders.  That fall, three teams returned to Kenya to conduct vision clinics; they experienced such a need that they returned to the same locations six months later. Since that time, other US congregations have joined us; right now, there are over twenty US Lutheran congregations who have either made a long-term commitment to Kenya or who have been on more or more trips.

malaria-mission-2016.jpgNot just limited to eye care, Vision for Africa also works to eliminate malaria, Africa’s #1 killer.  Long-lasting treated bed nets are distributed and hung house to house in the most malaria-prone areas of Kenya.  Since national large-scale distribution programs have been very inefficient, the need on the ground is great: most homes have either outdated nets or none at all.  Bed net distributions combined with gospel proclamation have been very effective in growing the Church and sharing the love of Christ.

Interested in joining us on a mission trip? No special skills are required… simply a willingness to help and a desire to serve the Lord.  Trips are scheduled twice each year: early summer and late fall.  Please email Catherine Bluege at for more information or to get questions answered.
