I think we’d all agree holding membership at a fitness center or owning a tricked out Peloton doesn’t automatically tighten those abs or glutes. You have to actually participate as a member or use the equipment as it was intended to get the benefit you desire. Likewise, to grow as Christ followers, we have to take our interest in the Bible beyond memory verses and a daily devotion. In no way am I knocking memorization or Bible reading. It’s deeper Bible study to which I am calling all of us.
The Word of God is a force to be reckoned with. It was through the Word, spoken, our entire existence, our universe, our abilities, etcetera, etcetera, etcetera, came into being. And it is the only force, energy, cosmic vibration or whatever the world wants to call it (we call it Jesus) with any power to heal this broken world and restore it to its original perfection.
A more meaningful Bible study is not for the faint of heart. As we dig deeper into Scripture, we will be challenged to a life beyond what the world tells us is satisfying and equipped for a life of selflessness. A deep dive into God’s Word exposes us for who we are and reveals who His Spirit invites us to be. In Scripture, we hear the thoughts of God’s brilliant mind and feel the rhythmic beat of His merciful and gracious heart. And instead of a nodding acquaintance, Jesus becomes a brother and a friend who actually did lay down His life for us.
Deep dive Bible study. Are you ready to take the plunge?
All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work. 2 Timothy 3:16-17
